And we’re back!

2020 was a challenging year for many of us. While we count our blessings, one thing all of us here at Good Games can agree on is that the year just wasn’t the same without the Good Games Championships.

That’s why we’re so pleased to announce to you, the Good Games community, that the Good Games Championship will kick-off at your local Good Games store this February!

We’ve made a few changes!

As always, we’ve incorporated the feedback from all of you into the Good Games Championship to continue to make it the best it can be.

Overall, we knew we needed to make the championship accessible and easy to understand regardless of your experience with Magic or Organised Play.

In 2021, the Good Games Championship will be broken into seasons in-line with each of the major Magic releases:

Kaldheim Season: Feb-March

Strixhaven Season: April-June

Forgotten Realms Season: July-August

Innistrad Season: September-October

Each season contains a series of events (more on those in a moment), but will ultimately build toward a major Store Championship event at the end of the year (yes, each store will host one of these big events!)

Seasonal Championship Qualifiers

Each week of the season, your local Good Games store can run 1 Seasonal Championship Qualifier (for a total of 6 events per season).

The Seasonal Championship Qualifier will be one of the following formats, chosen by the store:

Sealed Deck

Booster Draft

While the stores will decide the format (and we suggest you contact them and let them know which format you prefer!), all events at all stores will have the same minimum prize support and entry fees. We have decided to do this so that regardless of which Good Games store you play at, you will have a consistent tournament experience.

Constructed: Entry fees $20 and a pool of 3 boosters per player as prizes.

Sealed and Booster Draft: Entry fee (based on product used), and pool of 3 boosters per player as prizes.

The top 4 of each of these events will also qualify for-

The Good Games Seasonal Championships

At the end of each season, each store will run a Seasonal Championship.

This event is only open to those who qualified in the 6 events prior, so will have a player maximum of 24.

Like the Qualifier events, the format of the Seasonal Championship will be chosen by the store. These events will have a slightly higher entry fee, and offer the following prize support:

  • A pool of 4 boosters per player
  • The Winner becomes the Seasonal Champion
  • The Top 8 qualify for the Good Games Championships in November (again, more on that below!)

Come November, after all 4 seasons, we will then host-

The Good Games Store Championships

This is your chance to be immortalised on the Good Games Championship trophy at your favourite Good Games store!

Like the other events in this series, the format of each of the Good Games Store Championships will be decided by each individual store.

This event is only open to top 8 competitors of the Good Games Seasonal Championship, which will cap this event at 32.

In addition to the prizes outlined by each individual store, the winner of each of these events will receive $1000 cash.

The dates of these events will be posted at the beginning of the Innistrad season, allowing you plenty of time to plan for the big day.

Kaldheim Season

Will be the first season to kick off the 2021 Good Games Championships.

The season will run from Monday 15th February through to Sunday 28th March

You will find all Good Games Championship events on our Events Calendar page here

Passdowns: If a player in an event has already qualified for the next level, their qualification passes down to the next person in that event. Example: I qualified for Kaldheim Season Champs week 1 and then again in week 2, so my week 2 qualification passes down to the next player in the week 2 event.

Can I play in different stores?: Yes, you can play in any Good Games Season Qualifiers, Season Championships or Store Championships at any of our participating stores. However, as stores may have some conflicting dates you can only play in an event you can attend and so if multiple stores have events on the same day, you have to choose which one to attend.

Larger off site events: There is room in the schedule to do this, however given the current Covid-19 climate we are not in a position to add anything as yet. We are keen to replicate the great events we were running such as the MCQ and Nationals style events in the future.
